Buffalo the Beautiful.

Buffalo the Beautiful!
Well if you've seen one river pic you've seen em all, right..
but this was a special little trip to the one and only Buffalo river for us.
A.) It was our very first time to take stinker canoeing
B.) Jon's been working a lot so this was some much needed time spend with him and
C.) Jon's grandma lives fairly close-by, so we opted to drive to her house afterwards for a surprise visit that hopefully made her day!
--
We popped out of bed bright and early.. well some of us stumbled and grumbled (ME)
when its so early that Starbucks isn't open, I'm a firm believer that it is WAY too early to be going anywhere!
:)

When we arrived I saw what I assumed were dogs on the other side of the river, but we quickly realized they were baby deer. Right behind the spot Kellen is standing in this next picture there was a Momma and at least two fawns in plain sight on the side of the river bank. They were so little and sweet. Of course they ran off as soon as we got close, but fun for Kellen none the less.
He was cracking us up because we kept pointing out the sun bathing turtles along the sides of the water on rocks and branches and he wasn't seeing any of them. We're thinking turtle hunting or bird watching wont be in his future :)

We fished and skipped rocks and collected 'moneycoins'. Jon even found some doctors debt card from what we can only assume was the left- overs of a tipped canoe, fail!
He adores Jon so much. It was some much needed dad time to swim and fish and splash and play.I love these moments. sigh

...and someone snagged some sips.. COKE, it's the next best thing on the hot river!
:)

and we in fact, did not catch a fish. pout.
it was a hoot watching him try though.
not to mention every canoe that passed by and said hi, he would say
'we're trying to catch a fish but we don't know how to'
ummmm, thanks son, thanks for calling us out!
:)
One couple in particular that he told that to and were laughing as they past by, we ran into them in the parking lot as we were leaving, they rolled down the window and asked him if he caught any fish, and he says 'no, we never did.. that's a bummer.'
they rolled off laughing again.
good stuff

This is fun..
On the left is a picture of Jaxson on a canoe trip, about the same age as Kellen.
Two brothers, years later, same life jacket.
gotta love it

We were some drowned river rats by the time we got to Jon's grandmas house, but she didn't care. She was surprise and thrilled to see us. She adores Jon and talks about us visiting all the time through letters, and she thinks Kellen is pretty extra special. After all, his middle name is Powell, named after her and Jon's grandpa.
She seemed delighted, which we were happy for. Short visit , but very extra sweet.
Kellen gave lots of hugs and sweet smiles and sweet words.

Above is Aunt Jo and next is K with Aunt Jan.
They each drove a good ways to make sure they got to see him, and seemed equally as excited. Very sweet family we have. Very loving and welcoming and entertaining. good visit!

Gramma was in their neck of the woods visiting at the same time, so she treated us to dinner. Here are the mustache musketeers after our fine southern meal!

Our summer has been electrifyin!
